Machine Specifications
The 25kN or 5,500lb. universal testing machine is capable of testing to virtually any ASTM standard. This system uses the industry standard clevis pin adapter to attach any type of grip or fixture. By changing the grips, the machine can be used to test under different procedures including tensile, compression, bending, shear, peel, and many more.
Key specifications: 25 kN (5,620 lbf) capacity; 1 m (39.4 in) total stroke; test speeds up to 500 mm/min; 175 mm (6.9 in) column clearance. Longer stroke and wider frames are available.
ASTM D6862 - 90 Degree Peel Test
ASTM D1414 - Rubber O-Ring Tensile Test
ASTM C307 - Tensile Test on Mortar Briquette
ASTM D751 - Coated Fabric Tensile Testing
Customization
The machine can be accessorized with high fidelity video extensometers, temperature chambers, or protective plexi-glass cages for safety. Additional data acquisition channels can be added for strain gauges and deflectometers used in bend testing. The Galdabini machines are the most flexible and customizable universal testing machines in the world.
Quality
All Galdabini machines are manufactured under a strict ISO 9001:2008 certified quality control process.
After-Sales Support
Every Galdabini machine includes lifetime remote support directly from the manufacturer. TeamViewer is used to remotely access the machine and diagnose any potential issues.
Calibration and maintenance can be performed by any local force calibration professional.
What fits inside 25 kN (5,620 lbf)
The 25 kN Quasar is where benchtop testing moves from plastics into thin metals, rubber products and building materials. Typical peak loads, worked out from strength × cross-section:
-
Steel sheet, ASTM E8 sheet-type specimen (12.5 × 1.5 mm) at 450 MPa: about 8.4 kN.
-
Advanced high-strength steel at 1,000 MPa, same specimen: about 19 kN.
-
Rubber O-rings, ASTM D1414: usually under 2 kN.
-
Mortar briquettes, ASTM C307: a few kilonewtons.
-
Coated fabrics, ASTM D751 grab and tear tests: up to a few kilonewtons.
A step into metals without a floor-standing frame
Sheet metal, thin strip, wire and small fasteners all fit under 25 kN, so many metal-finishing and stamping shops can test coupons in-house on a bench. The 175 mm column clearance takes wedge grips sized for sheet and a clip-on extensometer for yield and modulus.
Grips and fixtures for this size
Typical 25 kN setups include mechanical wedge grips for sheet and plastics, O-ring spools for D1414, a 90° peel fixture for D6862, briquette grips for C307, and bend fixtures for thin metal and composite laminates.
25 kN or 50 kN?
Choose 25 kN when most of your work is plastics, rubber and thin sheet below about 20 kN. Choose 50 kN for steel thicker than 2 mm, small round bars and composite coupons, which also gets you the wider 205 mm frame. Our buyer's guide walks through the choice.
Testing sheet metal on a benchtop
For ASTM E8 sheet specimens, use wedge grips with serrated faces sized for the sheet thickness, and align the specimen carefully so it does not bend as the grips close. Yield strength needs a clip-on extensometer, while tensile strength and elongation can come from the force and the marked gauge length. Speed is usually controlled by strain rate up to yield, then increased for the rest of the test.
Frequently asked questions
Can a 25 kN machine test steel?
Yes for thin sheet, strip and wire. A 12.5 × 1.5 mm E8 sheet specimen in mild steel breaks around 8 kN. Thicker sheet, round bars and high-strength grades usually need 50 kN or more.
What is the actual capacity of the 25 kN Quasar in pounds?
25 kN equals 5,620 lbf.
Does the 25 kN frame need a dedicated bench?
It is a benchtop frame, but it is heavier than the 5 and 10 kN models, so use a rigid, level table rated for the machine plus fixtures.
Can the 25 kN machine run ASTM E8 with an extensometer?
Yes. The 175 mm frame takes wedge grips for sheet and a clip-on extensometer for yield strength and modulus to E8 and ISO 6892-1.
