Self-centering pneumatic grip for films, paper and elastomers
Off-center clamping puts a bending moment into thin specimens and can cause early breaks at the jaw. The UGC-PG-040 avoids this with dual-action, symmetric clamping: both jaws move toward the center line together, so the specimen ends up on the load axis without the operator lining it up by eye. Clamping force is 2.2 kN (495 lbf) at 7 bar (102 psi) and rises to a maximum of 5 kN (1,124 lbf) at 16 bar (232 psi).
How it works
Air enters through a 1/8 in internal thread and drives the jaws through a 6 mm stroke. The opening range depends on which of the two supplied rod sets is fitted: 0–6 mm for thin films and paper, or 4–11 mm for thicker rubber or nonwovens. Each grip also comes with a specimen alignment device that mounts on the jaws and helps place strips straight and at a consistent position before the jaws close. The body is anodized aluminum and weighs 1.21 kg (2.7 lb) per grip without jaws. The standard temperature range is 0 to 70 °C, with versions up to 180 °C on request.
Jaws and versions
Jaws 30 x 50 mm: blank, rubber-coated, pyramid, wave or diamond
V-jaws: 30 mm high, for round specimens of 4–6 mm or 7–11 mm diameter
Insert jaws 30 x 50 mm: quick-change faces mounted on a carrier
Insert jaws 30 x 100 mm: blank, rubber, pyramid, wave or diamond for wider strips
Line-contact insert jaws: 15 mm radius for a narrow, defined clamping line
Insert jaws need a carrier, ordered separately, and the grips themselves ship without jaws so you only buy the surfaces you use.
Typical applications
Plastic films and sheet, paper and packaging, rubber and elastomers, and textiles and nonwovens. The 50 mm and 100 mm jaw widths take the strip widths common in film and paper work, suiting specimens for tests such as ASTM D882 and ISO 527-3 on film and ISO 1924-2 on paper and board.
Machine fit and accessories
The clamping range suits a Mark-10 F-series motorized tester such as the 500 lbF tensile tester, or a 2.5 kN or 5 kN Galdabini benchtop testing machine. The coupling is configured on request and adapters cover most frames. Foot pedals or hand switches from the pneumatic grip accessories range keep both hands free for the alignment device, and a regulator lets you dial clamping down for delicate films.

Pneumatic Grip 2.2 kN FAQ
What does dual-action, self-centering mean?
Both jaws close symmetrically toward the center line, so the specimen is clamped on the load axis whatever its thickness within the opening range. That reduces bending at the jaw face on thin films and paper.
Which rod set should I use?
Fit the 0–6 mm rod set for films, paper and thin sheet, and the 4–11 mm set for thicker rubber or nonwovens. Both sets are included.
What is the specimen alignment device?
A guide that mounts on the jaws to position the specimen straight before clamping. One is supplied with each grip.
Can I go above 2.2 kN clamping force?
Yes. 2.2 kN is the figure at 7 bar; with a supply up to 16 bar, clamping rises to a maximum of 5 kN. A pressure regulator lets you set the level for each material.
Is a high-temperature version available?
The standard range is 0 to 70 °C. Versions for up to 180 °C are available on request for use with environmental chambers.
Are jaws included?
No. Choose standard 30 x 50 mm jaws, V-jaws, or quick-change inserts with a carrier, all ordered separately.
