20 kN pneumatic lever grip for fabrics, rubber and wide specimens
When textile strips, carpet, leather or reinforced rubber start slipping in a light pneumatic grip, the UGC-PG-020 is the step up. It is built for tensile tests up to 20 kN (4,496 lbf) and uses a lever inside the grip to multiply the force of its pneumatic cylinder: at 7 bar (102 psi) the jaws clamp with 18 kN (4,046 lbf), and at 16 bar (232 psi) clamping reaches 40 kN (8,992 lbf). That reserve lets you hold a specimen firmly without resorting to serrations so aggressive they cut it at the jaw line.
How it works
Air drives the cylinder, the lever amplifies its stroke into clamping force, and each jaw travels 7 mm. The counter jaw is positioned with a screw handle, so you can center the clamping line on the load axis or offset it asymmetrically when a specimen or fixture calls for it. Jaw opening is 0–12 mm or 10–20 mm depending on the rods fitted, with a maximum of 22 mm (0.87 in). The standard operating range is 0 to 70 °C; other ranges are on request. Coupling to your frame is configured on request, and adapters are available for most machines.
Jaws and versions
40 x 120 mm jaws in blank, rubber-coated, pyramid, wave or diamond grit surfaces for general strip specimens
V-jaws for round specimens of 6–12 mm or 11–19 mm diameter
60 x 200 mm wave jaws, wide enough for carpets and technical textiles
60 x 210 mm L-shaped wave jaws for textiles, leather, paper and foils
Jaws are ordered separately from the grip bodies, so you can start with one surface and add others as your test program grows. Further jaw surfaces and sizes are available on request.
Typical applications
Woven and technical fabrics, rubber and elastomer sheet, plastic film and sheet, carpet and leather. The wide wave jaws suit specimens for strip tests such as ASTM D5035 and ISO 13934-1, where a broad, even clamp line helps keep breaks away from the jaw edge. See our textile testing page for more fabric setups.
Machine fit
At 10 kg (22 lb) per grip, this is a grip for a rigid frame. A 25 kN Galdabini benchtop universal testing machine gives headroom over the 20 kN rating, and larger universal testing machines work as well; smaller motorized testers are better matched to our lighter pneumatic grips. For foot or hand operation and pressure control, add items from the pneumatic grip accessories range. Running at 16 bar needs a supply above typical shop air, such as the 16 bar laboratory compressor listed there.
Send us your specimen width and thickness, frame coupling and available air pressure, and we will quote a matched pair of grips and jaws.

Pneumatic Grip 20 kN FAQ
What is the difference between the 20 kN rating and the 18 kN clamping force?
20 kN is the maximum tensile load the grip is rated for. 18 kN is how hard the jaws squeeze the specimen at 7 bar; raising the supply to 16 bar increases clamping to 40 kN.
How wide a specimen can the UGC-PG-020 hold?
Standard jaws are 120 mm wide, and wave jaws 200 mm or 210 mm wide are available for carpets, textiles and leather.
Can the clamping line be offset from the center?
Yes. The counter jaw is set with a screw handle and can be adjusted asymmetrically.
How far do the jaws open?
0–12 mm or 10–20 mm depending on the rods fitted, with a maximum of 22 mm. Each jaw strokes 7 mm.
Are jaws included with the grip?
No. Grips and jaws are ordered separately; choose 40 x 120 mm jaws in five surfaces, V-jaws or the wide wave jaws.
Which machine coupling does it use?
The coupling is configured on request to suit your frame, and adapters are available for most testing machines.
