A pneumatic grip built for fast loading of thin, flexible specimens

The UGC-PG-110 Universal Pneumatic Grip is designed for labs that run repeated tensile tests on plastic films and foils, textiles and nonwovens, paper and board, and packaging materials. A Ø 70 mm pneumatic rod closes the jaw with 2.6 kN of clamping force at 7 bar (roughly 585 lbf at about 102 psi), so an operator can load a specimen, close both grips and start the test in seconds. Because the clamping force comes from compressed air rather than a hand screw, each specimen is held the same way, which removes one source of operator-to-operator scatter.

Open design for easy specimen loading

The anodized aluminum body has an open layout with generous space behind the jaws. Long film strips, fabric tails and folded packaging samples can be threaded through without fighting the grip frame. Order the grip with one rod (1.5 kg per grip) or two rods (1.85 kg per grip), both weighed without jaws. A 220 mm tall body is offered in either rod configuration when the load train needs more height.

Jaw opening and jaw faces

The standard version opens 0–14 mm (about 0.55 in). For thick laminates, layered fabrics or tabbed specimens, the large-opening version reaches 42 mm (about 1.65 in) using rods for the 0–20 mm and 22–42 mm ranges. Jaws have a 30 x 50 mm clamping surface and are available as standard or quick-change insert jaws:

  • Blank (smooth) faces for surfaces that should not be marked

  • Rubber faces for delicate or slippery materials

  • Pyramid, wave and diamond faces for firmer grip on board, fabrics and smooth, hard specimens

  • V-jaws for round specimens Ø 2–7 mm or Ø 5–14 mm

How it differs from the UGC-PG-090

Our UGC-PG-090 Pneumatic Vise Grip uses the same 2.6 kN, Ø 70 mm cylinder but is a U-form vise grip with openings of 0–18 mm or 10–28 mm and jaws up to 100 mm wide. Pick the UGC-PG-110 when you want the open-backed body, the 0–42 mm large-opening version or the 220 mm tall body; pick the PG-090 when you need wider jaws.

Machine fit and air supply

The standard coupling is a female clevis for a Ø 15.9 mm (5/8 in) or Ø 20 mm pin; other couplings and adapters are available on request. The grip suits Mark-10 F-series motorized tensile testers (100–1,500 lbF) and Galdabini benchtop universal testing machines. Air connects through a 1/8 in internal thread, and foot pedals, hand switches and pressure regulators are covered on our pneumatic grip accessories page. The rated range is 0 to 70 °C, with other ranges on request.

Tell us your specimen, machine coupling and air supply, and we will configure the UGC-PG-110 for you. Request a quote or call 978-882-1480.

Universal Pneumatic Grip 2.6 kN FAQ

What clamping force does the UGC-PG-110 produce?

2.6 kN (about 585 lbf) at 7 bar from its Ø 70 mm rod. Clamping force follows supply pressure, so a pressure regulator lets you lower it for delicate films.

Is 2.6 kN the maximum tensile load?

No. 2.6 kN is the clamping force. The tensile load the grip holds before slipping depends on the jaw face and the specimen, so send us your expected break force and we will recommend faces.

How far does the jaw open?

The standard version opens 0–14 mm. The large-opening version reaches 42 mm using rods for the 0–20 mm and 22–42 mm ranges.

Should I order one rod or two?

Both clamp at 2.6 kN at 7 bar. The single-rod grip weighs 1.5 kg and the two-rod grip 1.85 kg per grip without jaws; tell us your specimen and we will advise.

How is the UGC-PG-110 different from the UGC-PG-090?

Both use a 2.6 kN, Ø 70 mm cylinder. The PG-110 adds an open body with space behind the jaws, a 0–42 mm version and a 220 mm tall body; the PG-090 is a U-form vise grip with jaws up to 100 mm wide.

Will it fit my testing machine?

The standard coupling is a female clevis for a Ø 15.9 mm (5/8 in) or Ø 20 mm pin. Other couplings and adapters are available on request.
