U-form pneumatic vise grip for films, ribbons and textiles
The UGC-PG-090 is a straightforward vise-style pneumatic grip: a U-shaped body with a 70 mm diameter pneumatic cylinder that closes the jaw on the specimen with 2.6 kN (585 lbf) at 7 bar (102 psi). Supply pressure can go up to 16 bar (232 psi) when a firmer hold is needed. The simple layout is quick to load and suits labs testing films and ribbons, textiles and paper, solar cell connectors and small components.
How it works
Air from a 1/8 in internal-thread connection drives the 70 mm cylinder, which closes the jaw across the U-shaped body. With the standard rod the grip takes specimens 0–18 mm (0.71 in) thick; fitting the optional 51.5 mm rod shifts the range to 10–28 mm (0.39–1.10 in) for thicker parts. The dual-cylinder version adds a second cylinder for more clamping stability, at 1.93 kg per grip against 1.55 kg for the single-cylinder grip. The body is anodized aluminum and the standard temperature range is 0 to 70 °C, with other ranges on request.
Jaws and options
30 x 50 mm jaws: blank, rubber, pyramid, wave or diamond, plus V-jaws for round specimens Ø 2–18 mm
30 x 80 and 30 x 100 mm jaws: the same five flat surfaces for wider ribbons and strips
Quick-change insert jaws: 30 x 50 or 30 x 100 mm, mounted on carriers
Quick-release levers: optional, on either version
Spacer plates: fit between the grip body and cylinder so the two grips can be brought very close together for short specimens
The grips are supplied without jaws, so you choose the width and surface for your specimens.
Typical applications
Films and ribbons, textiles and paper, solar cell connectors and small components. The 100 mm wide jaws take film and paper strips for tests such as ASTM D882 and ASTM D828. For manual screw-action versions of this style, see our vise grips.
PG-090 or PG-110?
Universal Grip's UGC-PG-110 universal pneumatic grip uses the same 70 mm, 2.6 kN cylinder, so the two are easy to confuse. The PG-090 is the U-form vise version, offered with 30 x 80 and 30 x 100 mm jaws and a 10–28 mm range via the alternative rod. The PG-110 has an open body with extra room behind the jaws, uses 30 x 50 mm jaws, and adds a large-opening version reaching 42 mm and a 220 mm tall body option.
A Mark-10 F-series motorized tester such as the 500 lbF or 750 lbF tensile tester, or a 2.5 kN Galdabini benchtop testing machine, fits this grip's working range. The coupling is configured on request to match your frame, and adapters are available. Send us your specimen thickness, the jaw width you need and your frame details to request a quote.

Pneumatic Vise Grip 2.6 kN FAQ
How is the UGC-PG-090 different from the UGC-PG-110?
Both use a 70 mm cylinder with 2.6 kN clamping at 7 bar. The PG-090 is the U-form vise version with 30 x 80 and 30 x 100 mm jaw options and a 10–28 mm alternative range; the PG-110 has an open body with space behind the jaws and a large-opening version up to 42 mm.
What specimen thickness does the PG-090 accept?
0–18 mm with the standard rod, or 10–28 mm with the optional 51.5 mm rod.
When should I pick the dual-cylinder version?
When you want more clamping stability. It weighs 1.93 kg per grip compared with 1.55 kg for the single-cylinder grip.
Can I increase the clamping force?
Yes. 2.6 kN is the figure at 7 bar, and the grip accepts up to 16 bar. A pressure regulator lets you set the level for each material.
What coupling does it have?
The coupling is configured on request to fit your testing machine, and adapters are available.
Are jaws included?
No. The grips are supplied without jaws; choose 30 x 50, 30 x 80 or 30 x 100 mm jaws or quick-change inserts.
