High-clamping pneumatic grip for metals, plastics, wood and textiles
The UGC-PG-080 brings pneumatic speed to specimens that normally call for a screw or wedge grip. A lever inside the body multiplies the cylinder force, so 7 bar (102 psi) of air produces 12 kN (2,698 lbf) of clamping force, and 15 bar produces 25 kN (5,620 lbf). That makes it a practical all-rounder for labs that test metal strip and foil, plastics and composites, wood samples, and textiles or braids on the same frame.
How it works
Air enters through a 1/8 in internal thread and drives the cylinder, and the lever transmission converts its stroke into jaw force. The opening range is selected with interchangeable rods, 0–10 mm, 10–20 mm or 20–30 mm (up to 1.18 in), and rods for all three ranges come with the grip pair. The single-rod version weighs 4.5 kg (9.9 lb) per grip. The two-rod version adds a gear that synchronizes the jaws so they close symmetrically about the axis, keeping specimens of different thickness centered; it weighs 5.18 kg (11.4 lb) per grip.
Jaws and versions
Jaws 40 x 60 mm: blank, rubber, pyramid, wave or diamond, opening 0–30 mm
Jaws 40 x 100 mm: the same surfaces for wider strips
Jaws 60 x 200 mm: pyramid, rubber-coated or wave for wide textile and braid specimens
V-jaws: 40 mm high, for round specimens Ø 3–20 mm or Ø 6–30 mm
Quick-change insert jaws: 50 x 60 or 50 x 100 mm faces on carriers
Jaws are ordered separately from the grips, so one pair of grips can be set up for metal coupons one day and wide fabric the next.
Typical applications
Metals and metal foils, plastics and composites, wood samples, and textiles and braids. With pyramid jaws the grip suits flat metal specimens for tests such as ASTM E8; with blank or rubber jaws it suits plastics specimens such as those in ASTM D638 and ISO 527-2. The standard temperature range is 0 to 70 °C, with others on request.
Choosing a lever grip
Universal Grip's UGC-PG-140 pneumatic lever grip uses the same three-range rod principle at a lower force, 4 kN clamping at 7 bar and 3.2 kg per grip. Choose the PG-080 when specimens need three times that clamping force. Size the frame to your specimens' breaking force; a 10 kN or 25 kN Galdabini benchtop testing machine is a typical partner. The coupling is a female clevis for a 15.9 mm (5/8 in) pin, with adapters for other frames.
Give us your materials, specimen thickness and width, and your machine's coupling, and we'll recommend the version and jaw set. Request a quote.

Pneumatic Grip 12 kN Clamping FAQ
How does the lever transmission increase clamping force?
The lever multiplies the force of the pneumatic cylinder, giving 12 kN at 7 bar and 25 kN at 15 bar from a compact aluminum body.
How do I change the jaw opening?
Swap the rods. Rods for 0–10, 10–20 and 20–30 mm are included with the grip pair.
What is the advantage of the two-rod version?
Its gear synchronizes both jaws so they close symmetrically, keeping specimens of different thickness centered on the load axis. It weighs 5.18 kg per grip against 4.5 kg for the single-rod version.
What jaw sizes are available?
40 x 60 mm and 40 x 100 mm jaws in blank, rubber, pyramid, wave and diamond, 60 x 200 mm wide jaws, V-jaws for 3–30 mm round specimens, and 50 x 60 or 50 x 100 mm quick-change inserts.
Can I run it from shop air?
Yes, 12 kN clamping is reached at 7 bar. For up to 25 kN you need 15 bar; our pneumatic accessories include a 16 bar compressor and a pressure booster.
What temperature range does it cover?
0 to 70 °C as standard. Other ranges are available on request.
