Vise Grips for Broad Textile Samples – 70, 150 or 200 mm Wide

Screw vise grips with serrated jaw plates 70, 150 or 200 mm wide for textile strips, films and thin sheet up to 4 mm thick.

Brand: Universal Grip  |  Model: UGC-VG-010  |  ● Configured to order

  • Clamping faces 70, 150 or 200 mm wide (2.8, 5.9 or 7.9 in), each 15 mm high

  • Holds thin flexible specimens up to 4 mm (0.16 in) thick

  • T-handle screw presses the jaw plate down evenly across the full width

  • Serrated jaw plates spread the load over the sample and limit slippage

  • Steel body with a corrosion-resistant nickel-plated finish

  • Supplied as a matched pair for the upper and lower crossheads

Standards: ASTM D5035  ·  ISO 13934-1

Wide-face vise grips for textile strips and thin sheet

The UGC-VG-010 is a pair of screw-operated vise grips made for broad, thin specimens: woven and nonwoven fabrics, technical textiles, plastic films and foils, paper and thin sheet. A narrow grip concentrates force in the middle of a wide strip and leaves the edges free to curl or tear. These grips instead have flat clamping faces that span the whole sample, so the load enters the specimen evenly and breaks are less likely to start at the jaw edge. They are aimed at textile, film and packaging labs that run strip and wide-strip tensile tests.

How it works

Each grip closes with a T-handle screw that drives a serrated jaw plate against the fixed face. Because the plate comes down across its full width, clamping pressure is shared by every yarn in the strip rather than a few in the center, which keeps fabric from walking out of the jaws. The T-handle gives enough leverage to clamp firmly by hand, so no wrench is needed between specimens. The steel body is nickel-plated to resist corrosion from handling and humid conditioning rooms.

Jaw widths

All three versions have a 15 mm (0.59 in) high clamping face and accept specimens up to 4 mm (0.16 in) thick. Pick the width that matches your sample:

  • 15 x 70 mm for narrow textile strips

  • 15 x 150 mm for wide textile strips

  • 15 x 200 mm for extra-wide textile and film samples

Typical applications

Woven and nonwoven fabrics, technical fabrics, plastic films and foils, and paper or thin sheet are the core materials. The 70 mm version takes a standard 50 mm (2 in) fabric strip with room to spare, which suits specimens for strip tests such as ASTM D5035 and ISO 13934-1. The 150 and 200 mm versions handle broader fabric and film samples that would overhang a conventional grip. More fabric test setups are collected on our textile testing page.

Capacity, coupling and machine fit

Maximum load and temperature range are given on request, matched to your material and expected breaking force. The grips connect through a clevis pin coupling, and other pin sizes are handled with adapters, so they can go on a Galdabini benchtop universal testing machine or a frame you already run. If your fabrics are heavier and need more clamping force over a 200 mm width, compare the UGC-VG-170 textile and geotextile vise grip, which uses three screws per side and is rated to 50 kN. Dimensional drawings and 3D models are available on request.

Send us the fabric or film type, strip width and thickness, and your machine coupling, and we will recommend the right width: request a quote.

Vise Grips for Broad Textile Samples FAQ

Which widths does the UGC-VG-010 come in?

70, 150 and 200 mm, each with a 15 mm high clamping face. The 70 mm grip takes a 50 mm fabric strip; the wider two suit broad fabric and film samples.

How thick a specimen can it hold?

Up to 4 mm (0.16 in). The grips are built for thin flexible materials rather than boards or laminates.

What is the maximum load?

Capacity is given on request. Tell us the material and expected breaking force; for heavy fabrics we may point you to the UGC-VG-170 rated to 50 kN.

Are the grips sold singly or as a pair?

As a matched pair, one for the upper and one for the lower crosshead.

Will they fit my testing machine?

They attach through a clevis pin coupling. Other pin sizes are covered with adapters.

Can I see a drawing before ordering?

Yes. Dimensional drawings and 3D models are available on request through our contact page.

Need help configuring a vise grip?

Tell us your material, test standard and specimen size. We will recommend the frame, force sensor, grips and fixtures, and send a quote.
