U-form screw action grip for textiles, films and paper
The UGC-VG-100 is a 5 kN (1,124 lbf) dual-acting screw action grip with a U-shaped anodized aluminum body. Its articulating jaws self-align to the specimen and pull tighter as the load rises, while both jaws move together so a seamed or coated sample stays on the load axis. Labs testing plastics, textiles, paper, metal foils and seam slippage use it as their everyday grip.
How it works
Turning the screw closes the jaws to seat the specimen; the test load does the rest. Just 15 Nm (11 lbf·ft) on the screw produces 10 kN (2,248 lbf) of clamping force, twice the grip's rated load. An optional quick-release lever, which can be retrofitted to any size, opens and closes the jaws without turning the screw through its full travel, saving time on long test runs.

28 mm opening: 1.3 kg (2.9 lb) per grip, -70 to +180 °C
50 mm opening: 1.4 kg (3.1 lb) per grip, -70 to +180 °C

Rubber jaws limit the range to -30 to +70 °C.
Jaws
Standard jaws come in 30 x 50, 30 x 80 and 30 x 100 mm with blank, rubber, pyramid, V, wave and diamond faces. Quick-change insert jaws in 30 x 50 or 30 x 100 mm mount on carriers so faces can be swapped in seconds.
Typical applications
With blank jaws, the grip is used for woven-fabric seam slippage tests to ISO 13936-1. Fitted with special 50.8 x 25.4 mm grab jaws, it suits geotextile grab tests to ASTM D4632. Plastic films and sheet, paper and metal foils round out the list; see our textile testing page for related setups.
Choosing the right setup
A 5 kN grip sits comfortably on a 5 kN Galdabini benchtop machine or the Mark-10 1,500 lbF tensile tester. The grip connects through a female clevis taking either a 15.9 mm (5/8 in) or a 20 mm pin, and adapters suit other frames. Air-actuated versions are listed under pneumatic grips, and for higher loads the UGC-VG-080 runs the same self-tightening design at 10 and 20 kN.
