Compact U-form screw action grips, 1 to 5 kN
The UGC-VG-110 family brings the self-tightening screw action principle down to small, light bodies for low-force work on textiles, films and soft materials. Each grip has articulating jaws that align to the specimen and close further as tension builds, and a dual-acting layout in which both jaws move, so an asymmetrical sample such as a seamed fabric stays centered. With anodized aluminum bodies from 0.27 kg (0.6 lb) per grip, they are easy on small load cells and quick to handle at the bench.
Choosing capacity and opening
Capacity and opening trade against each other across the range, so pick the smallest opening that clears your thickest specimen:
2.5 kN, 0–10 mm: 0.27 kg per grip; 5 kN clamping at 4 Nm
2 kN, 0–20 mm: 0.32 kg per grip; 5 kN clamping at 4 Nm
1 kN, 0–30 mm: 0.33 kg per grip; 7.5 to 11 kN clamping at 10 to 15 Nm
1 kN, 0–52 mm: 0.49 kg per grip, for bulky specimens
5 kN stainless AISI 316, 0–10 mm: for corrosive media
The aluminum versions are specified for 0 to +70 °C, with other ranges on request.
Jaws
Standard jaws run from 25 x 25 mm to 30 x 100 mm in blank, rubber, pyramid, V, wave and diamond faces. Line-contact jaws clamp along a narrow radius to fix the gauge length, and quick-change insert jaws on carriers let you swap faces without removing the grip. Stainless steel jaws are available to match the stainless body.
Typical applications
With suitable jaws or special versions, the grips are used for textile grab tests to ASTM D5034, woven-fabric seam slippage to ISO 13936-2 and peel tests on needle-punched geosynthetic clay liners to ASTM D6496. Machine fit
The 1 and 2 kN versions suit the Mark-10 500 lbF tensile tester (about 2.2 kN); the 2.5 kN version pairs with the 750 lbF tester or a 2.5 kN Galdabini benchtop machine. Each grip takes a female clevis for a 15.9 mm (5/8 in) or 20 mm pin; anything else is handled with adapters. When you need 5 kN in aluminum and larger jaws, step up to the UGC-VG-100 U-form vise grip.
