Screw action grip for fine wire, thin rope and narrow bands
Small cross sections are awkward to grip: there is little surface for the jaws to hold, and too much pressure crushes or notches the specimen so it breaks at the jaw. The UGC-VG-150 is designed for exactly that case. Its narrow 37 x 15 mm insert jaws close from 0 to 5 mm and concentrate the clamp on the specimen itself, giving a firm hold on fine metal wire, thin ropes and cords, narrow bands and tapes, and fibers or monofilaments. Wire producers, cable and cordage makers, and medical device labs testing small filaments are typical users.
How it works
The anodized aluminum body carries insert jaw carriers. Jaws sit in the carriers and swap quickly, so one pair of grips can switch between a smooth face for soft bands and a diamond face for hard wire in seconds. The screw closes the jaws over a 0–5 mm range. At 0.38 kg (0.84 lb) per grip with jaws, the grip keeps the load train light.
Jaws
Blank inserts, 37 x 15 mm: smooth faces for bands, tapes and coated filaments
Diamond-coated inserts, 37 x 15 mm: for hard, smooth wire that slips on plain faces
Manual or pneumatic
The standard grip is screw operated. For higher throughput, two pneumatic versions clamp with 1.2 kN (270 lbf) through an M5 air connection:
One piston: 0.56 kg per grip
Two pistons: 0.74 kg per grip
Other air-operated designs are listed under pneumatic grips.
Typical applications and machine fit
Fine metal wires, thin ropes and cords, narrow bands and tapes, and fibers and monofilaments are the main uses, including specimens for yarn and monofilament tests such as ASTM D2256 and ISO 2062. At 2.5 kN the grip suits the Mark-10 750 lbF tensile tester (about 3.3 kN) or a 2.5 kN Galdabini benchtop machine. It couples by female clevis for a 15.9 mm (5/8 in) or 20 mm pin, with adapters available, and is rated 0 to +70 °C with other ranges on request. For rope and yarn that cuts in flat jaws, our rope grips and wrap grips spread the load around a capstan instead.

Fine Wire and Narrow Band Grip 2.5 kN FAQ
What specimens is the UGC-VG-150 designed for?
Fine metal wire, thin ropes and cords, narrow bands and tapes, and fibers or monofilaments up to 5 mm thick.
When should I use diamond-coated inserts?
For hard, smooth wire that slips in plain jaws. Blank inserts are better for soft bands and coated filaments.
Are the insert jaws included?
No. The pair comes with insert jaw carriers fitted; blank or diamond insert sets are ordered separately.
Can the wire grip be air-operated?
Yes, with one or two pistons, clamping at 1.2 kN through an M5 air connection.
What does each grip weigh?
0.38 kg (0.84 lb) for the manual grip with jaws; 0.56 kg or 0.74 kg for the pneumatic versions.
What if my rope breaks at the jaws?
Consider rope grips, which wrap the specimen around a capstan to reduce jaw stress.
