A pneumatic grip for tests where every gram on the load cell counts

When a specimen breaks at a few newtons, the grip hanging on the load cell can weigh more than the force you are trying to measure. The UGC-PG-160 tackles that with a 240 g body (without jaws) and a single pneumatic rod. It is used on thin films and foils, fibers and filaments, labels and medical packaging, and small electronic components, where a heavy grip would eat into a small load cell's range.

Clamping force and rated load

At 7 bar (about 102 psi) the rod develops 200 N of clamping force, roughly 45 lbf, and the grip accepts air pressure up to 16 bar (about 232 psi). The grip is rated for 100 N of tensile load (about 22.5 lbf) at a coefficient of friction of 0.5 between jaw and specimen. That rating is a reminder that holding capacity depends on the jaw face and the material: a rubber face on a film behaves differently from a pyramid face on a filament. A pressure regulator lets you lower the clamping force for films that would otherwise be crushed at the jaw line.

Jaws and versions

Jaw opening is up to 20 mm, depending on the jaws. Jaws are ordered separately from the grip, so you can start with one face set and add others as your test list grows:

  • 25 x 25 mm: smooth, rubber, pyramid and diamond faces

  • 25 x 50 mm: smooth, rubber, pyramid, wave and diamond faces

  • 25 x 60 mm and 25 x 100 mm: smooth, nickel-plated, rubber and pyramid faces

  • 25.4 x 76.2 mm (1 x 3 in): smooth, nickel-plated, rubber and pyramid faces

Mounting and machine fit

The coupling is a female clevis for a Ø 8 mm pin, which is smaller than the clevis on most of our pneumatic grips, so check your machine's connection; adapters are available on request. Air connects through an M5 port. With a 100 N rating, the grip suits low-capacity setups such as the Mark-10 100 lbF tensile tester and other F-series motorized testers, as well as the Galdabini 2.5 kN benchtop UTM.

The temperature range is 0 to +70 °C depending on jaws, with other ranges on request; specify pull rods if the grips will work inside an environmental chamber. Foot pedals, hand switches and a regulator are on the pneumatic grip accessories page.

Tell us the specimen, expected peak force and machine coupling, and we will match jaws and accessories. Request a quote.

Small Lightweight Pneumatic Grip 100 N FAQ

Why is the rated tensile force lower than the clamping force?

The rod clamps with 200 N at 7 bar. The grip is rated for 100 N of tensile load at a jaw-to-specimen friction coefficient of 0.5, so the usable load depends on the jaw face and specimen.

How heavy is the UGC-PG-160?

240 g per grip without jaws.

Can I run higher air pressure?

The grip accepts up to 16 bar; at 7 bar it clamps with 200 N. A pressure regulator lets you set the pressure for each material.

Which jaw sizes are available?

25 x 25, 25 x 50, 25 x 60 and 25 x 100 mm, plus 25.4 x 76.2 mm (1 x 3 in), with face types that vary by size.

What coupling does it use?

A female clevis for a Ø 8 mm pin. Tell us your machine and we will supply a matching adapter.

Can it be used in a temperature chamber?

Yes, specify pull rods for chamber use. The standard range is 0 to +70 °C depending on jaws; other ranges are on request.
