Miniature vise grip for low-force tests on small specimens
The UGC-VG-070 is a 100 N (22.5 lbf) screw vise grip for specimens that are too small or too delicate for a standard grip: fine wires, single fibers, thin foils, medical and textile threads, and small electronic components. At low forces the mass of the grip itself becomes part of the measurement, so this one is built from anodized aluminum and weighs only 57 g (2 oz) without jaws. That keeps the tare load small on low-capacity load cells and leaves more of the cell's range for the test.
How it works
A small screw closes a pair of interchangeable jaws onto the specimen. The jaws measure 15 x 15 mm and are made of hardened steel at 58 HRC, so the faces hold their shape over many tests. Three faces are offered: smooth (blank) for specimens that must not be marked, rubber-faced for films and threads that cut easily, and serrated for wire and stiffer material. Opening is 0–8 mm, or 0–6 mm with rubber jaws.
Versions
Manual, clevis coupling: 100 N, female clevis for an 8 mm pin
Manual, M5 thread: 100 N, 41 g per grip, screws directly onto a load cell
Stainless steel: complete AISI 316 construction for -60 to +280 °C and corrosive or wet environments
Pneumatic, 1 or 2 rods: 140 N (31.5 lbf) clamping at 7 bar (102 psi), rated 70 N at a friction coefficient of 0.5
The aluminum versions are specified for 0 to +70 °C.
Typical applications
Fine wires and fibers, thin films and foils, small electronic components, and medical and textile threads are the core uses. For single fibers, the grip suits specimens for tests such as ASTM D3822. Air-operated grips for the same work are listed under pneumatic grips.
Choosing a tester
A 100 N grip belongs on a low-force frame. The Mark-10 100 lbF tensile tester (about 445 N) is a natural match, as is the 2.5 kN Galdabini benchtop machine fitted with a small load cell. Other couplings are possible through adapters. If your specimens need more force or wider jaws, the UGC-VG-090 small vise grip is rated 400 N and takes jaws up to 100 mm wide.

Small Vise Grip 100 N FAQ
How much does the UGC-VG-070 weigh?
57 g (2 oz) per grip without jaws, or 41 g for the M5-thread version.
Which jaw faces are available?
Smooth (blank), rubber-faced and serrated jaws, all 15 x 15 mm in hardened 58 HRC steel. Jaws are ordered separately.
Can it mount directly on a load cell?
Yes. The M5-thread version screws straight onto a load cell; the standard version uses a female clevis for an 8 mm pin.
Is there a version for wet or hot environments?
The complete AISI 316 stainless steel version runs from -60 to +280 °C and resists corrosion.
What do the pneumatic versions offer?
140 N clamping force at 7 bar with 1 or 2 rods, for faster, repeatable clamping. Their rated load is 70 N at a friction coefficient of 0.5.
Which tester suits a 100 N grip?
A low-force frame such as the Mark-10 100 lbF tensile tester.
