220 mm vise grip for wide textile specimens
The UGC-VG-180 is a 20 kN (4,496 lbf) grip for wide flexible specimens: textile strips, technical fabrics and webbing, coated fabrics and membranes, and nonwovens and felts. Its 60 x 220 mm clamping surface is wide enough for 200 mm wide-strip specimens with margin at each edge, and tall enough to give fabric a generous contact area. It comes in two forms, a manual three-screw grip and a pneumatic grip, so a lab can choose between low cost and fast, repeatable clamping.
Manual or pneumatic
Manual version: three screws across the jaw width build up to 40 kN (8,992 lbf) of clamping force at 45 Nm (33 lbf·ft). 4.86 kg (10.7 lb) per grip without jaws.
Pneumatic version: a cylinder closes the jaws with 7.8 kN (1,753 lbf) at 7 bar (102 psi), or 17.8 kN (4,001 lbf) at 16 bar (232 psi). 5.90 kg (13.0 lb) per grip without jaws.
The pneumatic grip applies the same force to every specimen regardless of operator, and pairs with foot pedals, hand switches and a pressure regulator so both hands stay free to align the fabric. Those controls are ordered separately.
Jaws
Jaws are hardened, nickel-plated steel and open from 0 to 20 mm. Wave jaws with a 5 mm wave hold flexible fabrics without cutting yarns, while pyramid jaws with a 1.2 x 45° serration bite into rigid or slippery strips. A special rubber-coated jaw at 60 x 250 mm, opening 0–18 mm, is available on request for delicate fabrics.
Typical applications
Wide textile strips, technical fabrics and webbing, coated fabrics and membranes, and nonwovens and felts are the main uses. The grip suits specimens for coated-fabric tests such as ISO 1421 and 200 mm wide-strip tests such as ASTM D4595 within its 20 kN rating. For more fabric fixtures see our textile testing page.
Machine fit
A 25 kN Galdabini benchtop machine is the natural partner. Both versions couple through a female clevis for a 15.9 mm (5/8 in) pin, with adapters for other frames, and are rated 0 to +70 °C. Other air-actuated designs are listed under pneumatic grips. If your specimens need more than 20 kN, the UGC-VG-170 takes 200 mm jaws to 50 kN.

Wide Sample Vise Grip 20 kN FAQ
Should I choose the manual or pneumatic UGC-VG-180?
The manual grip gives the highest clamping force, up to 40 kN at 45 Nm. The pneumatic grip clamps every specimen the same way and speeds up loading in high-volume labs.
What clamping force does the pneumatic version give?
7.8 kN at 7 bar (102 psi) and 17.8 kN at 16 bar (232 psi).
Will a 200 mm wide-strip specimen fit?
Yes. The 220 mm jaws leave margin at each edge of a 200 mm strip.
Which jaws suit coated fabrics?
Wave jaws are the usual start for fabrics. A rubber-coated 60 x 250 mm special is available for delicate materials.
Are foot pedals included with the pneumatic version?
No. Foot pedals, hand switches and a pressure regulator are ordered separately.
What machine does it suit?
A 25 kN Galdabini benchtop machine matches its 20 kN rating.
