46 kN symmetric screw action grip in nickel-coated steel
The UGC-VG-200 is the heavy member of our screw action family. It combines the self-tightening, articulating jaws of the lighter grips with a steel body and a symmetric layout, so both jaws close equally about the test axis. That keeps asymmetrical specimens, such as coated strips or tabbed laminates, centered and free of bending as load rises. Rated 46 kN (10,341 lbf), it serves labs testing plastics and CFRP laminates, nylon-reinforced strips, wide textiles and belting, and timing belts.
How it works
The screw is tightened with an impact wrench: at 500 Nm (369 lbf·ft) the grip builds 92 kN (20,682 lbf) of clamping force, twice its tensile rating, and at 50 Nm it still gives 9.2 kN for softer materials that should not be crushed. Once the test starts, the articulating jaws self-align to the specimen and pull tighter with the load. The body is nickel-coated steel, rated from 0 to +180 °C, and weighs 12 kg (26.5 lb) per grip without jaws. We recommend an impact wrench over a hand wrench for reaching 500 Nm consistently.
Jaws
60 x 66 mm: blank, rubber, pyramid, wave or diamond, opening 0–30 mm
V-jaws, 60 mm high: round specimens Ø 6–30 mm, plain or diamond
Pyramid 70 x 120 mm: opening 0–20 mm
70 x 210 mm: blank, pyramid, wave, rubber-coated wave or V, opening 0–20 mm, for wide specimens
Specials include a wide-opening version (0–70 mm), a 50 kN timing belt grip with serrated insert jaws, and grab jaws for geotextile tests on request.
Typical applications
Plastics and CFRP laminates, in tests such as ASTM D3039 and ISO 527-4, are a natural fit, along with nylon-reinforced strips, wide textiles and belting, and timing belts. The +180 °C rating lets the grip work inside our environmental chambers for elevated-temperature composite tests.
Machine fit
Pair it with a 50 kN Galdabini benchtop machine or, for headroom, a 100 kN frame. The standard coupling is a female clevis for a 31.8 mm (1-1/4 in) pin, and adapters fit other machines. For loads up to 20 kN in a lighter body, see the UGC-VG-080; above 46 kN, the UGC-VG-190 heavy duty vise grip goes to 100 kN and beyond.

Screw Action Vise Grip 46 kN FAQ
How much clamping force does the UGC-VG-200 deliver?
92 kN (20,682 lbf) at 500 Nm, or 9.2 kN at 50 Nm for softer specimens.
Do I need an impact wrench?
It is recommended. Reaching 500 Nm by hand is impractical, and an impact wrench gives repeatable clamping.
What does symmetric mean here?
Both jaws close equally about the test axis, so asymmetrical specimens stay centered and are not bent as load rises.
Can it test CFRP laminates?
Yes. Plastics and CFRP laminates are core applications, for tests such as ASTM D3039.
Is there an ASTM D4632 grab-test version?
Grab jaws for geotextile tests are available as a special version on request.
What temperature range does it cover?
0 to +180 °C, with other ranges on request.
