Even clamping across wide flat specimens

Wide specimens are hard to hold evenly. A single cylinder pushes hardest at its center, and the edges of a wide strip can slip or tear first. The UGC-PG-200 is a pneumatic vise grip with three pneumatic rods acting on 60 x 220 mm hardened steel jaws, so clamping is spread across the full 220 mm (8.7 in) width. It is used on woven and technical textiles, webbing and belts, geotextiles and nets, and wide plastic sheet.

Clamping force

Together the three rods produce 7.8 kN of clamping force at 7 bar (about 1,750 lbf at roughly 102 psi) and 17.8 kN at 16 bar (about 4,000 lbf at 232 psi). The jaw opening is 0–20 mm, which leaves room for thick or layered fabrics. The body is anodized aluminum for low weight and corrosion resistance, and each grip weighs 5.90 kg (about 13 lb) without jaws. The maximum tensile load for the pneumatic version is not specified separately from the clamping force, so share your expected breaking force and we will confirm the setup.

Choosing pyramid or wave jaws

  • Pyramid jaws, 60 x 220 mm: hardened and nickel-plated with 1.2 x 45° pyramids, for firm materials

  • Wave jaws, 60 x 220 mm: a 5 mm wave profile that holds flexible fabrics without cutting them

Manual version

For labs or field sites without compressed air, a screw-operated vise grip version is offered with a 40 kN maximum load. It is quoted on request.

Wide-width textile and geotextile tests

The 220 mm jaw width accommodates the 200 mm wide specimens used in wide-width strip methods such as ASTM D4595 and ISO 10319, as well as narrower fabric strips. Because geotextile strengths vary widely, tell us the expected breaking force so we can check that the clamping force and jaw face suit your product.

Machine fit

Each grip mounts on a female clevis for a Ø 15.9 mm (5/8 in) pin; adapters for other couplings are available on request. The grip suits Galdabini 10 kN, 25 kN and 50 kN benchtop universal testing machines and is rated for 0 to +70 °C, with other ranges on request. For hands-free clamping, add foot pedals, hand switches or a regulator from our pneumatic grip accessories.

Send us the specimen width, material and expected breaking force, and we will configure the grips. Request a quote.

Wide Pneumatic Grip with Pyramid Jaws FAQ

Why does the UGC-PG-200 use three rods?

Three pneumatic rods spread the clamping force evenly across the 220 mm jaw width, so the edges of a wide specimen are held as firmly as the center.

What clamping force does it produce?

7.8 kN at 7 bar and 17.8 kN at 16 bar.

Should I choose pyramid or wave jaws?

Pyramid jaws (1.2 x 45°) suit firm materials; 5 mm wave jaws hold flexible fabrics without cutting them.

Can it hold 200 mm wide geotextile specimens?

The 220 mm jaws accept the 200 mm wide specimens used in tests such as ASTM D4595 and ISO 10319. Send us the expected breaking force so we can confirm holding capacity.

What if we have no compressed air?

A manual screw-operated vise grip version is available on request, with a 40 kN maximum load.

How heavy is each grip?

5.90 kg per grip without jaws.
